UG Group (formerly 2WR+ Partners) partnered with Columbus State University to transform the Cunningham Conference Center into a multifunctional facility that meets the evolving needs of students, faculty, and industry leaders. The design focused on integrating adaptable spaces, cutting-edge technology, and sustainable features while maintaining the building’s original architectural character.
A Dynamic Space for Learning and Leadership
The facility features a 270-seat banquet hall, breakout seminar rooms, and dedicated spaces for leadership and professional development. UG Group’s design enhanced key program areas, including the Leadership Education Program and the John Cunningham Sales Institute, providing environments tailored for workshops, executive training, and interactive learning. Additionally, the technology incubator fosters innovation and collaboration, supporting entrepreneurs and students in emerging industries.
Blending Historic Architecture with Modern Design
The renovation honored the existing exposed concrete structure, preserving the building’s original construction while integrating new materials for a seamless campus aesthetic. A prominent stone wall at the main campus entry visually connects the center to newer university buildings, reinforcing a cohesive identity for Columbus State University. This approach ensured the facility remained functional and visually aligned with the institution’s growth.
Sustainability and Smart Technology Integration
UG Group incorporated energy-efficient systems to improve sustainability and reduce operational costs. The conference center’s classrooms and seminar rooms feature 21st-century teaching technology, making the facility highly adaptable for in-person and virtual learning experiences.
