Enhancing Safety, Accessibility, and Functionality
A well-designed rest stop is essential for travelers, offering safe, accessible, and convenient facilities. UG Group (formerly 2WR+ Partners) is leading a multi-phase project to evaluate and modernize rest stops and state school sites across Georgia. Our team focuses on improving safety, ADA compliance, and functionality to create user-friendly public spaces that better serve the community. Moreover, these enhancements support Georgia’s commitment to maintaining high-quality public infrastructure.
Phase 1: Statewide Assessments and Planning
The project started with a comprehensive site assessment of 17 rest areas across Georgia. UG Group conducted detailed evaluations, documenting findings in a 100-page report outlining current conditions and necessary upgrades. Additionally, our team developed preliminary cost estimates to help prioritize repairs and renovations. As a result, improvements are now strategically planned to align with state infrastructure goals.
Phase 2: Implementing Strategic Improvements
Building on the findings from Phase 1, this phase focuses on creating a phased improvement plan and developing construction documents to address deficiencies. Key initiatives include:
- Ensuring ADA compliance to improve accessibility
- Designing two new rest stop buildings for better usability
- Upgrading facilities to meet modern safety and functional standards
- Implementing sustainable design strategies to reduce long-term maintenance costs
Because of these upgrades, rest stops will become safer, more comfortable, and more efficient for travelers. Additionally, these improvements reinforce Georgia’s dedication to modernizing public spaces.
Expanding Impact Beyond Rest Stops
UG Group is also conducting site assessments for three Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) State School Sites. Using the same rigorous evaluation and planning process, our team will address the unique needs of these educational facilities. Consequently, these schools will meet compliance standards and better serve students.
Commitment to Sustainable and User-Focused Design
This project reflects UG Group’s dedication to practical, sustainable, and user-friendly solutions for public facilities. By modernizing rest stops and educational sites, we are enhancing Georgia’s infrastructure and improving the travel experience for visitors and residents. Furthermore, these upgrades extend the lifespan of public facilities, ensuring they remain valuable assets for years to come.
