Harris County Public Library

Hamilton, Georgia

A Transformative Community Resource

Public libraries serve as vital hubs for learning, connection, and innovation. UG Group (formerly 2WR+ Partners) proudly contributed to the design of the new Harris County Public Library, creating a dynamic space that fosters education and community engagement. The grand opening drew over 300 residents, demonstrating overwhelming support for the library’s role in the county’s growth. Unlike typical ribbon-cutting events, attendees lingered for hours, exploring the facility, obtaining library cards, and checking out books. Many visitors expressed excitement about the library’s expanded offerings and welcoming atmosphere, which now better serves the evolving needs of the community.

A Modern, Expansive Facility

The new 15,000-sq.-ft. public library is three times larger than its predecessor, allowing for expanded services and programming. UG Group designed the facility to include dedicated areas for adults, teens, and children, ensuring all age groups have a welcoming space. Additionally, the Maker Space features a 3D printer and Virtual Reality gear, empowering visitors with hands-on learning opportunities. The facility also includes meeting rooms, a computer lab, and a business center, supporting professional development, job seekers, and lifelong education.

Young visitors were particularly excited about the interactive children’s section, where they explored every corner of their new space. Meanwhile, patrons received demonstrations of the automated RFID-enabled checkout system, streamlining the borrowing experience and enhancing accessibility. Library staff provided guided tours, helping guests familiarize themselves with new technology, study spaces, and available services.

A Vision for Community Growth

Located beside the award-winning Harris County Community Center, also designed by UG Group, the public library completes a long-term vision first master-planned in 2009. This collaborative effort with the Harris County Board of Commissioners and Parks and Recreation Department has resulted in a vibrant, interconnected complex that will serve the community for generations. Together, the community center and library provide essential resources, reinforcing Harris County’s commitment to education, accessibility, and public service.
