Project Overview
Poke Sun is a modern, fast-casual poke restaurant located inside Columbus’ vibrant Banks Food Hall. At just 525 square feet, the space needed to be efficient, engaging, and visually bold.
UG Group (formerly 2WR+Partners) led the architectural design. From the start, we worked closely with the client to translate their vision into a built environment. As a result, the restaurant reflects a fresh identity while meeting real-world operational demands.
Design Approach
First, we focused on layout and functionality. Despite the limited footprint, we designed a space that includes a fully equipped kitchen, an efficient ordering line, and a customer-friendly service counter. Each area was intentionally placed to support smooth staff movement and intuitive customer interaction.
Next, we selected materials and lighting that supported the brand’s personality. Bright colors and modern finishes brought energy to the space. Meanwhile, durable surfaces ensured performance under high food hall traffic.
In addition, we paid close attention to detail. Lighting angles, signage placement, and spatial flow were all considered carefully. This level of design coordination helped balance form with function—two essential qualities in any food service setting.
Delivery Method
The Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery method was used for this project. This approach allowed early collaboration between design and construction teams. As the project progressed, it became easier to make quick adjustments based on field conditions and evolving client needs.
Because of this close teamwork, we stayed on budget and on schedule. Just as importantly, we maintained design quality from start to finish.
Final Outcome
Today, Poke Sun stands out as a vibrant and efficient tenant in the Banks Food Hall. The restaurant offers a bold customer experience in a compact, well-designed footprint.
